MRI has two clinics offering Brief Therapy and Strategic Family Therapy. Both models work with families, couples and individuals. We are committed at MRI to helping people receive the type of counseling that is most suited to their specific needs.

Brief Therapy

The Brief Therapy Center has been in existence since 1966 and offering solutions to an array of different problems since then. It is part of a clinical research project and, as part of that, the client receives the benefit of working, not only with a therapist but with a whole team. We offer a maximum of 10 sessions but usually don't need that many to promote change in the problem that is presented. The focus of the sessions is to promote change in an effective way. We work with individuals, couples and families with a variety of problems: eating disorders, depression, marital conflict, adolescents, stress and work related problems.

Strategic Family Therapy

Strategic therapy introduces complexity into people's lives so that they have more options from which to choose: the end result is that treatment should bring more connectedness among people and encourage people to be more responsible to each other.

Strategic therapy is both practical and caring. The therapy is goal focused and is designed to provide relief in the here and now. Our therapists are trained to use a strength based, problem-solving approach. As each client's situation is different, each therapy is individually designed. We employ research-proven techniques for changing problems and work collaboratively to be as time-effective as clients need. The emphasis is on change and on strengths. Depending on the desire of the client and the nature of the problem, others who can be involved in the solutions might be asked to participate. Frequently, "homework" is suggested so that change is actively being pursued both outside and inside the therapy office. We work with individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents with a variety of problems, including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, phobias, marital conflict, stress, eating disorders. We also offer a unique approach to families with youth with oppositional and conduct disorder.

Fees
We recognize that effective therapy is often beyond the financial reach of many people. MRI is a non-profit research and training center offering quality care at affordable rates. The Strategic Therapy Center offers a sliding scale and hours convenient to most clients: Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-8 p.m, Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and some Saturday appointments.
